Children’s mental health has never been more important. Across classrooms and playgrounds, many children and young people are carrying emotional challenges that affect their learning, behaviour and wellbeing. During Children’s Mental Health Week (9–15 February), KidsAid is inviting schools to come together and make a positive, visible difference through a simple fundraising initiative called Change for KidsAid.
Change for KidsAid is designed to fit easily into the school day while creating meaningful impact. Schools are encouraged to host a colourful mufti day, where pupils and staff wear something bright or blue in exchange for a small donation. The funds raised help support KidsAid’s creative therapy services for children and young people who have experienced trauma or emotional distress.
Creative therapy offers children safe and age-appropriate ways to express their feelings when words are difficult. Through play, art, movement and storytelling, children are supported to build emotional resilience, confidence and coping skills. This kind of early intervention can be life-changing, helping children feel understood, supported and better able to thrive both in and out of school.
As a charity, KidsAid receives no statutory funding. Our work is made possible through the generosity of schools, community groups and supporters who recognise the importance of mental health support for children. Fundraising initiatives like Change for KidsAid play a vital role in enabling us to continue providing these specialist services to children and families who need them most.
Taking part also gives schools the opportunity to raise awareness, encourage open conversations about mental health and show pupils that emotional wellbeing matters. It is a simple act that sends a powerful message of care, compassion and community.
If your school would like to take part in Change for KidsAid during Children’s Mental Health Week, or if you would like more information, please contact Charlotte Cornish at charlotte@kidsaid.org.uk. We would love to work with you to help support children’s mental health across our community.
