We have all heard the proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child.” Today, as our communities navigate complex challenges, this sentiment rings truer than ever.
Currently, schools and local authorities are facing unprecedented pressures in supporting pupils who are navigating trauma, additional needs, and emotional distress. At the same time, children and young people are waiting far too long to be seen by overstretched statutory mental health services. At KidsAid, we believe no child should have to face the weight of their experiences alone.
That is why we are proud to introduce Stronger Together.
Through our Stronger Together: It Takes a Village campaign, we are building a bridge between schools, local businesses and families. By bringing our communities together, we are promoting a sustainable, community-supported model that ensures children can access vital therapy even when school budgets are limited.
Over the next three years, the Stronger Together initiative will embed a trauma-informed, whole-school framework within six primary schools in diverse and deprived communities across Northamptonshire and Peterborough.
Rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, this tiered programme combines multiple layers of care to complement existing school support:
By working together, we expect this three-year programme to directly reach 352 children and young people, 48 parents and carers, and 96 pastoral staff and school leaders.
Creating earlier access to support ensures that all children – particularly those from marginalised backgrounds – feel safe, understood, and supported within the familiar environment of their school.
